With the population in Sub-Saharan Africa expected to almost double by 2050, climate smart agriculture is essential to provide food security and resilience in the region.
Situated in Kogi State, Nigeria, this new agricultural and veterinary university will be tailored for both academic excellence and practical agricultural training, providing a transformative educational environment.
The ethos of the scheme is the combination of traditional agricultural practices and knowledge with emerging innovative technologies to foster agricultural excellence for sustainable food production.
The proposals for 2,500 students, to be constructed in phases, are based around a series of ‘neighbourhoods’ designed to encourage cross-disciplinary learning, thinking and research, fostering an academic community. The campus integrates spaces for research such as agroforestry, soil and water conservation technologies and climate information services with practical hands-on open-air lectures.
Following the ethos through to the building materials the scheme will utilise local building materials applied in an innovative design.
